James and Katya were installing a new kitchen as part of a wider construction project. The kitchen would replace the old one and keep a similar layout. There was no room to expand, so they needed a creative use of the space they had.
Katya searched online for potential suppliers, narrowing her search down to four. “I spent time with one, explaining all my needs,” she says, “but I never heard back from them. I couldn’t find a convenient time to meet with the second company and by the time the third one had got back to me I’d already met Simon at Ridgeway and my mind was made up”.
“Simon wanted to meet at the Ridgeway showroom which I thought was a bit odd at first, but somehow it made sense when I got there. I had a list of what I wanted to achieve and, conceptually, I knew what I wanted. But one of Simon’s strengths was in helping me create a mood for my kitchen.
“I would have gone with contemporary, clinical white cupboard doors and drawers but – having showed me 30 shades of white – he convinced me that I could still have a fresh and sleek kitchen with a warm white. “This’ll work,” he said. And he was right. He was the same with the splashback and the counter tops. He has a real eye for colour and I love what he came up with.
“Simon helped me source all the appliances and I did a lot of cross-checking to get to my perfect spec. I took his suggestions on board and tweaked them to exactly how I needed things to be. I’m the sort of person that needs to see things. Feel things. When I’m an old lady I need to know I made the right decisions.
“I made a lot of last minute changes and cancellations which I felt genuinely bad about. But if I ever irritated Simon, he never showed it. He came up with new ideas – like how to build the breakfast bar around an existing pillar - and kept sending me CAD designs so I knew exactly what I was getting. Simon was my angel in this whole process.
“I loved all the fitters too and was sad to see them go. They came in in phases, with Simon overseeing their work. Our electrician, who’s about to retire, said that it was one of the best quality installations he’d ever seen. And he’s seen a lot.
Ridgeway was the best thing about all the work we had done. Even when we changed our minds they came back and kept making it better. I love my kitchen now – and it feels so much bigger than the old one.
