“We needed to work with people we trusted – and who would trust us – and were incredibly impressed by Darren from the first time we met him,” says Charles. “This is a guy that knows kitchens from the ground up and someone that instantly gave us confidence.
Charles and Hazel’s new kitchen was part of a major rebuild and restructure of their home. In fact the house was redesigned around the kitchen space and Ridgeway Kitchens’ designs were included on the architects’ plans very early on in the process. “We needed to work with people we trusted - and who would trust us - and were incredibly impressed by Darren from the first time we met him,” says Charles. “This is a guy that knows kitchens from the ground up and someone that instantly gave us confidence.
“Darren obviously loves what he does. He combines practical enthusiasm with great product knowledge and if things ever did go wrong, it was never a problem for long. “All the time that we were planning the kitchen, we were also planning the rest of the house. Darren and Carl built up such a good relationship of mutual respect with our builder, electrician and plumber that we hear they’re working together on other jobs now. “Ridgeway Kitchens offer a good product at an extremely reasonable price. I would absolutely recommend them. In fact I already have.”
“We started off at the Ridgeway showroom, where we first saw our units, and from then on we very much worked with Darren to come up with designs. He was always pleasant, friendly, helpful and practical. We’ve done a lot of kitchens before so we had ideas that we brought from previous properties. He really listened and understood what we wanted.
“Hazel likes to be part of the action when we’re entertaining friends, so she wanted the island area to have a hob that faced the table. But she’s not keen on people standing around her when she’s cooking so we wanted enough room to operate in but not so much that people would stand behind her. Darren has a great sense of space and came up with lots of suggestions. For example, our “prep sink”, with its boiling water tap, allows people to make a cup of tea or coffee without going into the cooking area.
“It was also important for us to get a good flow between the different elements in the kitchen. So the dishwasher is in the central island and the cupboards and drawers for the glasses and crockery are next to the table. And the positioning of sink, with its mirrored wall, takes advantage of the natural light while giving views of the courtyard. It’s a good quality, good looking, practical kitchen that really works.
