HOW LONG WILL MY NEW KITCHEN TAKE?

Once you’ve decided you’re ready to take that step towards having a new kitchen, one of the questions you may have is, ‘how long will my new kitchen take?’

We’ve got all the information you need so you’re fully prepared for process we’ll take to create your perfect space for cooking, dining, relaxing and entertaining.

Here at Ridgeway Interiors, we are here to make the whole process easy. So, we’ve taken all that stress away with different levels of service to suit your needs.

Once our skilled designers have created your CAD design and you’re happy with it and paid your deposit, you may simply need our ‘supply only’ service, which can take as little as 4 weeks from the moment you start your design consultation with us.

Or perhaps you need what we call a ‘dry fit’, where we install your kitchen furniture, sinks, taps, appliances and lighting but any final connections to services and other supplementary works are undertaken by your own tradespeople.

Suppose you want us to take care of everything. In that case, we also offer our building works service that takes care of everything, from an extension or stripping out the old kitchen, knocking down walls, plastering, tiling, plumbing, electrics, flooring and decorating – all taken care of by our own fully employed team of expert and trusted trades and overseen by our builders, installation manager and full-time fitter. You won’t waste time waiting for tradespeople to turn up, have long gaps between the different tasks or worry about being let down and having to arrange and rearrange everyone.

We’re also happy to work with your builders, sub-contractors, structural engineers and building control.

Your first step to your new kitchen is to come in and chat with us. It helps speed the process along if you have some ideas of what you do and don’t want. You may have some mood boards created using Pinterest or some design ideas from Houzz. Perhaps you’ve collected cuttings from brochures and magazines or simply have some ideas you want to discuss with us.

Some customers pin down their design in a day, while others take 3-4 months. Once our designers have a good idea of what you’d like, they will design the kitchen and layout using CAD so you can “view it and walk through it” and once you’re happy, signed the paperwork and paid your deposit, we will order your new kitchen.

Other factors that can influence the length of time the process takes include the style of kitchen you want. A German range, for instance, can take just four weeks for delivery, while bespoke, tailor-made furniture can take up to 10 weeks. With a wide choice of styles, from traditional and Shaker to modern, handleless and bespoke, ask us about the different lead times and what that means for your kitchen.

The time of year will also have an impact. Some factories overseas shut down for two weeks in the summer, while Christmas and January orders will mean a slight extension in time.

The simpler the project, the quicker the result, so if you’re just looking for a supply-only design, you could be enjoying your brand-new kitchen in as little as 6 weeks from your initial consultation with us. Our full building works service, on the other hand, will take care of everything and will take a few months.

As a guide, here’s an overview of the kitchen design and installation process:

  • 1 day-1 week
    Initial consultation

Your first step is to come and meet us, explore our showroom, take a look at what we offer for kitchens, appliances, furniture, and worktops, and then discuss what you want from your new kitchen.

  • 1-2 weeks
    Measuring up

Next, we will schedule a convenient day and time to visit you at home and take measurements of your space as well as assess the plumbing, electrics and any specific requirements.

  • 2-3 weeks
    Designing your kitchen

We’ll return with our initial design drawings within a week or two, discuss any changes, preferences and budget. We’ll then finalise your kitchen plan for your approval. But we will work with you until you are completely happy.

  • 3-15 weeks
    Ordering and final checks

Once you’re happy and paid your deposit, we’ll order your kitchen furniture with a delivery lead time ranging from 3 to 10 weeks; sometimes longer for bespoke. We’ll also schedule our project manager’s visit for final checks and a survey.

  • 3-14 weeks
    Kitchen installation

We’ll organise the fitting, which can take up to 14 weeks from the order date, address any building work requirements including removing a wall, plumbing, plastering, tile removal and old kitchen removal.

  • 1-3 weeks
    Worktop installation

Solid surface, granite, marble or Corian worktops will need templating before fitting and this can take up to two weeks after kitchen installation.

  • 1-3 days
    Post-installation final touches

We’ll arrange for plumbing connections, sink fitting, hob installation and glass splashback fitting where applicable. We’ll also do final checks, remove protective wrapping from doors and make sure your new kitchen is perfect and ready to enjoy.

  • 1-2 days
    Project completion

And finally, we’ll complete any remaining tasks and make sure you are happy, addressing any concerns if you have any before leaving you to relax and enjoy your brand-new kitchen for many years to come. We’re more than happy to address any issues over the coming months and years too – just give us a call.
